Solid Waste Management July-Aug UPDATE

As part of Ginlaw Goaw's pursuit in increasing the waste segregation practices of the households, several Modified Material Recovery Facilities (MRF) were already placed in various Puroks in the village.

This strategy did not only improve the solid waste management of the people but was also recognized in the recently concluded Clean and Green Contest as the "Most Functional MRF".

Prevalence of Hypertension: Community Update October 2015

Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Barangay Goaw

Section 22 and Section 32 of RA 9003 requires that there shall be separate containers, which are properly labeled for each type of waste from all sources and that there shall be established Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in every barangay or cluster of barangays, respectively.

During the initial house-to-house survey, there were no available and accessible trash bins in public areas (village hall, school, sari-sari store) of the Barangay observed. Moreover, the village also has no Materials Recovery Facility established.

·                       Last October 2015, four trash bins to be placed outside the local village hall and main sari stores were successfully turned over to the Barangay Captain. Each location will have a pair of trash bins properly labeled as "biodegradable" and "non-biodegradable".
·

As of October 2015 community exposure, a Modified Materials Recovery Facility has already been constructed by the village. The Modified MRF, composed of a single compartment, receives only plastics and cellophanes.

As of October 2015, Barangay Goaw already has an established modified MRF, which only receives solid waste such as plastics. The group plans to improve the existing MRF modified dividing the single compartment of the facilities into three, each of which receives the following type of waste, plastics, cans, and glass bottles.

The group also plans to increase the number of trash bins, adding 3 more at the village's elementary school. These trash bins will then be labeled as "biodegradable", "non-biodegradable", "recyclable".
