Empowered to serve: The First Aid and BLS Training

It was a long shot.

To conduct a First Aid and BLS Training in the outskirts would mean we have to provide the materials for the demonstration, overcome the rough terrains to transfer these materials, look for a competent speaker to do the lecture demonstration, provide the food of the entire participants during the duration of the event, and the list goes on.

That being said, the computed financial need went beyond the budget. We had no one to finance the activity. Just as we were losing hope, the group from Goin offered to collaborate with us. With this, we were able to split the financial burden between the two community groups.

The third major problem dawned on us a day before the activity. The guest speaker came all the way from Dipolog City. Fortunately, the heart to serve was present in both parties, that he endured the hours of land travel to grace the event.

October 18 marks the day when everything became possible. Fulfilling one vision , the medical students assigned in Liloy in collaboration with Philippine Red Cross-Dipolog Chapter conducted a First Aid and BLS Training targeting the barangay leaders and BHWs of a far-flung community.

It was all by God's grace that even after all the mishaps, the event came to pass successfully. It was more than what we expected. Not only did the participants gained skills on emergency response, they also managed to establish camaraderie and team work.

Rolling our sleeves up.

We must become bigger than we have been: more courageous, greater in spirit, larger in outlook.
